Hot, stuffy and full of potholes and roadworks. That is what every family member thinks just before heading out in mid-July for a long family trip. Except for the furry four-legged friend, for whom this is the happiest day ever. We are talking about the family dog of course, who if he shares a hobby with 95% of other dogs is also the number one fan of car rides including sticking his head out the window.

So in honor of man's best friend who just wants to ride, no matter where, Peugeot has unveiled a concept car that will make you drool: the 5008 "Dog Edition", a car designed from the dog's point of view to make the ride as exciting and comfortable as possible for him.

Peugeot explains that according to studies, during the summer travel season more than 60% of dog owners choose to take their dog on the family trip, and a similar percentage even chooses the destination to suit the furry friend. To make this trip optimal, Peugeot teamed up with the Stellantis design studio, the parent company, to develop a line of unique accessories for the perfect journey.

The designers asked themselves the basic question: how does a dog see, feel and experience a car ride, and adapted the colors, materials and special equipment features accordingly. For example, a window pillow in an invigorating yellow color, so the dog can rest its head during the favorite activity of sticking its head out the window. On the other hand, a comfortable bed was designed in a blue shade that calms dogs' eyes and helps them sleep.

The latter is equipped with a special mattress, durable not only for rides in the back seat, but also for use in the trunk, for a picnic outside and at home - so the four-legged friend can enjoy a familiar surface with his own scent wherever he goes. The concept vehicle also uses soft non-slip materials to help the dog maintain stability during turns.

"This is the first time I have seen the world from the dog's point of view during the design of a car", explains Hugo Nightingale, global creative director of the Stellantis design studio. "As a dog owner myself, this project was exceptional and inspiring. It encouraged us to think about every detail through the eyes of those who share our daily adventures with us".

For the benefit of the human who drives the dog on the best day of its life, Peugeot developed navigation software that identifies dog parks near charging stations, so you can take your friend for a play break while charging, instead of getting bored with you. And if you still leave him (for a moment!) in a closed car, the 5008 Dog Edition includes a special guard mode, which includes adjusting the climate control to maintain the dog's health and also a camera that allows you to see remotely, via phone, that your friend is fine alone in the car.

If the dog runs away during the picnic, Peugeot equipped the special 5008 with an external speaker that emits a call at a frequency dogs hear, which will help bring him back. A sensor will detect the dog when he returns, open the door and allow him to re-enter the passenger compartment, until you return to the car and continue to the next destination.
