American EV sales continue to encounter significant challenges.

Following the end of the federal 7500 dollar tax credit for US-made EVs in September 2025, fewer buyers have selected battery-powered vehicles.

Deliveries fell 27 percent in the first quarter of 2026 based on Cox Automotive figures. This comes after a 46 percent drop in EV sales during the last quarter of 2025.

The slowdown has altered the selection of new models available at US dealerships. By late 2025 Ford halted F-150 Lightning output, Nissan discontinued the Ariya, Acura ceased ZDX production, and Volkswagen delayed the ID. Buzz until 2027.

These adjustments have persisted into 2026.

The shifts do not signal a complete withdrawal from electric vehicles. The affected brands continue developing next-generation models that promise lower prices, greater range, and quicker charging.

Hyundai Ioniq 6 Standard

Hyundai has confirmed it will cease US sales of the standard Ioniq 6 built in Korea.

The retro-styled sedan has not achieved the popularity of its Ioniq 5 crossover sibling, which has seen strong sales this year with over 5000 units delivered in May alone, marking a 16 percent increase.

The company reported only 229 Ioniq 6 sales in February.

Sedan demand has fallen sharply over the past decade and the Ioniq 6 follows this trend. Without sufficient volume to support local manufacturing the economics do not favor continued imports.

Hyundai intends to bring a limited number of high-performance Ioniq 6 N variants to the US market featuring enhanced motors and track-oriented features.

Meanwhile 2025 Ioniq 6 models remain available alongside US-built Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 SUVs.

The Ioniq 6 will continue to reach Canadian showrooms.

2026 Hyundai Kona Electric

Hyundai introduced an electric version of its popular Kona crossover in 2019 by replacing the gasoline engine with a battery system.

It ranked among the brand's earliest widely available electric vehicles.

That chapter is now paused. Hyundai announced in February that it would not import the 2026 Kona Electric from Korean facilities. Like the Ioniq 6 limited 2025 stock remains on sale.

The model may return for the 2027 model year.

Priced from around 33000 dollars it ranked among the more affordable EVs offered in 2025.

Kia Niro EV

The Kia Niro EV has been withdrawn from the US market.

Introduced for the 2018 model year the vehicle derived from Kia's compact Niro crossover also offered in hybrid and plug-in hybrid forms.

A refreshed version appeared for 2026 while the plug-in hybrid variant was removed from the range.

Imported from South Korea the model faced added costs from current automotive tariffs.

Combined with softer EV demand these factors rendered continued US availability difficult to sustain.

Tesla Model S

The Model S played a pivotal role in Tesla's rise.

Launched in 2012 as the company's first purpose-built vehicle it departed from earlier slow and unconventional electric cars.

Offering supercar acceleration elegant styling and an advanced interior the sedan positioned electric driving as desirable rather than merely regulatory compliance.

This helped establish Tesla as the leading US EV manufacturer.

Despite its legacy the 94990 dollar sedan now faces an honorable retirement after prolonged sales declines.

Tesla Model X

The Model X will likewise conclude production.

Tesla's second ground-up vehicle ends output in the second quarter of 2026 due to weak demand. The SUV starts at 99990 dollars.

Introduced in 2015 the Model X featured ambitious engineering including its signature falcon-wing rear doors that proved complex to manufacture.

Production capacity previously used for these vehicles will shift to the company's Optimus robot program.

Kia EV6 GT and EV9 GT

Kia is adjusting its flagship electric lineup in a targeted manner.

The high-performance GT variants of the EV6 and EV9 face delays until further notice owing to shifting market conditions.

Other trims produced at the Georgia plant continue to be offered.

The delay leaves remaining EV6 and EV9 versions unaffected.

Volvo EX30

Volvo has confirmed discontinuation of the EX30 in the US.

The compact SUV was positioned as an accessible electric option starting below 35000 dollars.

Tariffs under successive administrations disrupted original plans. Initial production in China moved to Belgium raising costs and US pricing.

Focus now shifts to the EX60 midsize SUV offering up to 400 miles of range with a summer launch planned. The three-row EX90 remains available.

Honda's 0 Series EVs

In March Honda canceled production of its upcoming 0 Series Saloon and SUV.

These models represented the company's first internally developed electric vehicles following earlier joint-venture efforts.

They were to be assembled in Ohio with pricing near 50000 dollars.

Instead the company is emphasizing hybrid technology after recording substantial losses in its EV operations.

This leaves the Prologue as Honda's sole electric offering in US showrooms.

Acura RSX

Honda also abandoned the RSX electric SUV project modeled after the Tesla Model Y.

The decision surprised some observers given the recent unveiling of a production-intent version.

The vehicle was likewise slated for the Ohio facility leaving Acura without an electric model in its lineup.

Honda Sony Mobility Afeela

In March Honda confirmed it would no longer produce the Afeela.

The sedan scheduled for late-year introduction ahead of a related SUV was developed jointly with Sony and included distinctive features such as a customizable front bumper display lidar sensors and gaming connectivity.

Cancellation occurred shortly before planned Ohio assembly.

The vehicle remains playable in Gran Turismo 7.

BMW i4

BMW is phasing out the i4.

The five-seat hatchback styled as a Gran Coupe will conclude production by late 2026.

The model emphasized performance with 0-60 mph times as quick as 3.7 seconds and estimated range between 268 and 333 miles.
